About Me

I am an award-winning studio artist as well as a teacher, poet, and arts journalist. I have written for regional, national, and international audiences, and received accolades for my contributions as a public lecturer and cultural critic. I have taught art, art history, art theory and writing at several schools and universities, and I was one of the founding faculty of the Vancouver Island School of Art. I have devoted over twenty years to coaching students from all over the world in live and online classrooms, and am excited to work with you on the core concern of any artistic practice: creative identity.
For much of my twenty-two years of teaching, I’ve worked with learners who were relative beginners. This has provided a delight as fundamental as unpacking treasured art supplies or starting fresh work in the studio… Stimulating and renewing, it never gets old.
Like all artists, writers and performers, I’ve sometimes found myself confronting blocks and obstacles. I am no stranger to the process of constructing a creative practice while devoting time to work, friends, and family. If you are looking for guidance navigating these kinds of challenges, creative mentoring can serve to (re)introduce you to essential tools for gathering ideas, establishing routines, embracing discipline, setting boundaries, developing flexibility, and forming supportive connections.
I look forward to sharing this with you!

About The Artist’s Way

The Creative Recovery Course makes use of The Artist’s Way, Julia Cameron’s popular guide designed to help anyone connect with their creativity.
Its 12-week framework uses tools like ‘Morning Pages’ (a daily writing practice) and ‘Artist Dates’ (weekly excursions) to break through self-doubt and creative blocks.
Praised by major publications like The Guardian and The New York Times, The Artist’s Way is celebrated for its ability to inspire personal growth and unlock artistic potential.
